EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a technique discovered by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro.  EMDR is recognized by the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD. It is an adaptive information processing technique that gently stimulates the right hemisphere of the brain, then the left hemisphere in a rhythmic back-and-forth process.

EMDR allows clients to gently process events which have been traumatic in a way that does not remove the from memory but significantly reduces or eliminates the physical and emotional responses to those memories.  By removing the "charge" associated with traumatic experiences, these experiences no longer effect clients in the same way.
